MORE THAN A RESUME
Piper was raised between The Berkshires/Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts and New York City.
Piper has worn many hats in her career as an educator. She has worked as English and music faculty, in admissions, athletics, outdoor adventure, the arts, and has coordinated/led school exchange programs and trips to Scandinavia, Italy, France, and the rural Amazonas mountain region of Peru.
Piper facilitated an experiential leadership program for Afghan Youth Initiative in the summer of 2010 for young adults in Farah, Afghanistan. She received a Certificate of Excellence from the Provincial Governor, Roohul Amin
Piper is a life long learner and self-starter. She is an avid outdoor enthusiast, hiker, biker, photographer, voracious reader, trumpeter, mandolinist, and foreign language student (Italian and Hebrew). She loves sharing her interests with others.
For fun, Piper co-runs a women's social collaborative, Nerd Clubhouse, an actual and virtual unique international community of intellectual, nerdy women who play. She is a past contributor to the blogs and hosts outdoor events.
Piper lives in a historic home in Gardiner, Maine, with her wife, Emily Davies, felines Chester Arthur and Ming, and canine extraodinaire, Humphrey Bogart.
LICENSED PROFESSIONAL REGISTERED MAINE SEA KAYAK GUIDE
Piper owned a seasonal outdoor company for fifteen years and is a keen manager and customer service specialist. She finds joy in sea kayaking on coastal waters - and all of the responsibilities and challenges that come with that privilege. Piper holds a Maine CDL with passenger endorsement and is a Maine Notary Public.
YOU CAN'T TELL FROM A RESUME...
Piper adopted three teenage boys, biological brothers with moderate to severe developmental and/or behavioral needs, from foster care as a single parent over a decade ago (they are now adults living independently). After raising three boys, the silence in her home is unnerving.
